• LINUX<-->windows ; Grub Problem when Dual O.S exist

  • Here i will try to solve a common problem which people face often when they install both a Windows operating system and Unix based one which i assume a popular version as Ubuntu or Debian.

    The problem is simply about the Grub (Grand Unified Bootloader). Grub provides you the option that you choose which operating system to be booted. At the beginning you may face with no problem , two operating systems might be working pretty fine ,but if you format your windows version as you will have to do because of the existence of the memory leakage concept which is the most suffering aspect of Windows Operating Systems; the refined Windows will write itself to the MBR (Master Boot Record) due to the fact that it thinks it’s having the most absolute power within the technology world! , then the grub menu will disappear and what ? you won’t be able to boot your already installed linux version owing to grub’s getting collapsed by Windows. Till now i have described the problem , the solution is easy and quite pragmatic,

    • You will insert your Linux Live Cd in , and you will choose “Try Linux distro(Whatever Your distro is either Ubuntu or fedore and etc..)”
    • You will change your directory such that the cursor will be within where the Linux version has been installed that is most probably “/boot ” directory.
    • fdisk -l” , this command will let you know about the properties of the disks, so that you can figure out which partition is your kernel’s location.
    • Write “sudo grub” to the terminal  Here you need to write the “fdisk -l” so as to observe that where the kernel is installed , assuming kernel is within the (hd0,3)
    • root (hd0,3)
    • setup(hd0)
    • quit

    Here is over , the problem is solved, you are free to eject the live disc …

    When you start your Pc ; the grub menu will appear as it did before,and  you can keep having fun.

    Wishing Best
